Session and Tintype Care

DO’s for Tintype Sessions

CITY MARKET STUDIO LOCATION

307 W Saint Julian Street

Upper Studio 5, Savannah, GA 31401

Choose Mid-Tone & Colored Clothing

Select mid-tone colors (not too dark, not too light) for the most flattering contrast. Wear layers, jackets, vests, scarves, undershirts to add dimension and help balance tones.

Opt for textured fabrics (linen, denim, wool) or patterns, which photograph beautifully on tintype.

Break Up Extreme Colors

If wearing black or other dark colors, break them up with a lighter or more colorful layer underneath.

If wearing white or very light clothing, pair it with mid-tones or darker layers to avoid blowing out detail.

Think About Color Shifts

Tintype sees colors differently:

Reds, oranges, yellows appear very dark

Blues appear very light (almost white)

Purples & pinks often appear white, especially in makeup

(Lipstick in these colors will register extremely bright.)

DON’Ts for Tintype Sessions

Avoid All-Black or All-White Outfits

All-black can lose detail.

All-white can overpower the exposure and wash out.

Avoid Neon Colors. Neon's don’t translate well and can appear flat or oddly toned.

Avoid Logos and Text

Words, logos, and graphic designs turn out backwards on tintype.

  Be Cautious with Certain Makeup

Pink or purple lipstick will show up as white or very pale.

No SPF'S and No Self Tanners, it will come out blotchy

TINTYPE  CARE

Remove the image from its container once you get home.

If it gets dusty, lightly dust it with a microfiber cloth.

Avoid placing it in direct sunlight. Do not let it get wet. If you use a glass covered frame,

take it out time to time so it doesn't risk getting stuck to the glass.

No chemicals are ever needed for cleaning.

Remember picture frame glass have a UV protective covering.

Your tintype may appear darker in a frame. If that happens,

I recommend removing the glass and dusting as needed.

If you have more questions, please message the studio.
